What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a federal agency that brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges through national service & volunteering. AmeriCorps members & volunteers serve with organizations dedicated to the improvement of communities. AmeriCorps helps make service to others a cornerstone of our national culture.
AmeriCorps focuses on these key areas to make an impact: economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, disaster response, healthy futures, & veterans & military families.
AmeriCorps VISTA provides opportunities for Americans 18 years or older from a diverse range of backgrounds to dedicate a year of full-time service with an organization (“sponsor”) to create or expand programs designed to empower individuals & communities in overcoming poverty.
The power of AmeriCorps VISTA is extraordinary, & brings talented, passionate people on board to create or enhance anti-poverty programs by expanding the capacity of an organization.
Fit-2-Serve & AmeriCorps
Fit-2-Serve has partnered with AmeriCorps because we know that poverty goes beyond the amount of money one has in their bank account. When we think of poverty, we think of self-poverty, community poverty, & environmental poverty. It is our mission to create a more vibrant community. We can do this by focusing on these specific areas of poverty starting with our youth.
