Community Gardens

Bill Duey Learning Garden

This garden was where it all began!

In 2021, we lost our dear friend & the founder of Fit-2-Serve, Bill Duey. In memory of Bill & the vision he had for our community, we have dedicated this garden to him & his mission.

First Presbyterian Church Garden

In 2021, Fit-2-Serve founder,  Bill Duey, worked with Master Gardners & experienced local farmers to take a more holistic & sustainable approach to grow produce. Our goal is to provide nutrient-rich produce, free from chemicals & toxins.

A washing & drying station was added to this location to make harvesting more efficient, as well as keep our produce as fresh as possible! We hold a weekly Farmer's Market at 1st & Broadway, as well as next to DeBuhrs Feed & Seed located across from County Market in Mattoon.

Community Garden

Our Community Garden is our largest garden & is located at 520 S 5th Street. In 2023 we planted fruit trees in hopes of having an orchard in a few years. We are also currently growing asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, & blackberries in our Community Garden.

At a little over one acre, it's large enough to grow produce such as pumpkins, gourds, potatoes, etc. Between all of our gardens, many of the students in our Community Bridges programs will get to help us plant seeds in the spring, & harvest in the fall!
