Bill Duey Learning Garden

This garden was where it all began!

In 2021, we lost our dear friend and the founder of Fit-2-Serve, Bill Duey. In memory of Bill and the vision he had for our community, we have dedicated this garden to him and his mission.

First Presbyterian Church Garden

In 2021, Fit-2-Serve founder,  Bill Duey, worked with Master Gardners and experienced local farmers to take a more holistic and sustainable approach to grow produce. Our goal is to provide nutrient-rich produce, free from chemicals and toxins.

In the spring of 2022, a washing and drying station will be added to this location to make harvesting more efficient, as well as keep our produce as fresh as possible! We attend the weekly Farmer's Market at 1st and Broadway, as well as next to DeBuhrs Feed and Seed located across from County Market in Mattoon.

Community Garden

Our Community Garden is our largest garden and is located at 520 S 5th Street. We allow families to select a plot, plant their own seeds, and tend to it throughout the year! While it is the home of many family plots, we also grow asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, and blackberries in our Community Garden.

At a little over one acre, it's large enough to grow produce such as pumpkins, gourds, potatoes, etc. Between all of our gardens, many of the students in our Community Bridges programs will get to help us plant seeds in the spring, and harvest in the fall!
